I sometimes feel like i have to re-learn the art of layering every winter. I get so used to minimal clothing over the spring and summertime, that it's a shock to the system when i find that one layer just wont do.

Saying that, i also tend to fall back in love with fashion in the winter. Layering provides more opportunity for experimentation and playing with textures and patterns, and some of my all time favourite combinations have been born out of my attempts to simply stay warm and alive! And the above outfit is no exception to this. I love the mixture of greys in this outfit, but I think the touch of colour in the tartan skirt ensure that it's not too plain and boring. Now if only i had a huge fluffy grey collar to wrap around me, it would be absolute perfection. Early Christmas present maybe...? :P

This scarf is the answer to all of my winter woes. Not only is it gloriously thick but it's also made from the softest material, which keeps my neck very happy indeed. Hope you're all keeping warm ;)

Thursday

STYLE: BOXY, MANNISH, AND MONO, OH MY

COAT - PRIMARK, FUR COLLAR - VINTAGE, DRESS - MOTEL ROCKS, BAG - ASOS

I've found me the best coat on earth and, would you know it, it comes all the way from Primark. Not only is it beautifully boxy, mannish, and monochrome, but it's also ridiculously cosy. It also pairs up perfectly with this vintage fur collar i picked up yesterday from a tiny thrift store in Glasgow so it was obviously meant to be!

I'm really enjoying finding interesting walls to take pictures against at the moment, and it's amazing what a difference it makes to an outfit. I wish i could say that i planned the grey on grey of this outfit-wall combination but I stumbled upon it by pure chance. One of these days I'll be that organised... one of these days...

Hope you're all having a wonderful week!

Friday

This outfit is the very definition of thrifty fashion. All of the items, bar the trench, were less than £10 a piece and most of them are more than 6 months old and still going strong. I love recycling old pieces and finding new ways to style them - these trousers also featured in this post oh so many years ago if you want to see a different way to wear them.I've also rediscovered a whole load of old trainers. These ones were from eBay last year and fit so so well, i'd forgotten how comfy flat shoes can be!

I'm starting a second job tomorrow which means I'll be working 10-hour days for the next week so i'm off to prepare myself with a hot bath and some Walking Dead :)

Hope you all have had a brilliant weekend!

Thursday

FASHION: FAVOURITE A/W COATS

The one thing i love about this time of year is the coats. Not that i ever need an excuse, but it's always nice to be able to justify spending your weekly food budget on an item of clothing by convincing yourself that you may well die of frostbite without it.

Having a good winter coat is essential for me as i walk to and from work so I need something that's going to stand up against the often insane Scottish weather without looking like i'm wearing a sleeping bag - until that look becomes fashionable anyway, then i'll be all over it!

Here are a few of my favourite picks from this season.

Robots Eating Roses, Favourite A/W 2014 Coats
Clockwise from left:
Missguided Reck Check and Leather Jacket

This paisley Boohoo number is an absolute dream. The luxe silk-like material and print are to die for, and the orange and gold tones are perfectly autumnal. I also love the fur collar details of the Missguided jacket, how snug does that look!

Mint Velvet Faux Fur Gilet

I'm a sucker for anything fluffy and warm, so the faux furs, knits and thick wool coats are definitely at the top of my list, and the golden hue of the Topshop and Asos coats are perfect for the season.

I love the variety of coats that come out every year, but i think this year is a winner as far as different styles, colours and textures go. Now to choose just one...

Which is your favourite?

I bought this skirt from online store Romwe almost a year ago, but have only just got round to altering it as it was far too big for me, but i was too in love with the print to return it. 1 hour of sewing later and voila, perfect! I think the pattern and colours are gorgeous and look really stunning when paired with plain black or white.
